Inle Myanmar at Marina Square

Quick post for this. Having been to Myanmar, I entered the place feeling as thou I have returned there. The service staff were all Burmese and are all very friendly.
They had a set meal promotion going on at $11.90 for the outlet at Marina Square.
You get to choose a side dish, a mains and either a drink or dessert.

Sour Plum Juice
Tasty , Refreshing but a bit too sour.

Pickeld Tea Leaves Salad
Interesting and rather tasty. A little bit oily but when paired with rice, it goes well.

Onion Fritters
Very crispy but not too oily. Did not really like the sauce but the fritters itself is just good enough.

Myanmar Fried Kway Teow
Quite similar to the local Char Kway Teow that we have but tastes a little like fusion between Mee Goreng and Fried Kway Teow.

Curry Chicken With Butter Rice
Rice is very fragrant and the shrimp chilli seems to match with everything!

Green Room Vegetarian Cafe at Bishan Park

Went to Bishan Park for lunch at this rather interesting place - Green Room Vegetarian Cafe.
Definitely a great place for something light on the palate or those who are health conscious. The ambience inside and outside is quite relaxing and being surrounded by greenery, you naturally feel more relaxed and isolated from the bustles of city life.
They had a lunch promotion set going which gives you a soup of the day, main course and juice of the day.
The portion given is more than the average restuarant or cafes so sharing a set and ordering another mains would be good enough.

Mint Tea and Energizer
Very strong smell of mint and good for digestion( as stated in the menu).
When they told me it was papaya and pineapple, my jaw dropped. I did not expect such a combination but nonetheless, it tasted great. Really a energizing drink for a lull day.

Soup of the Day (Tomato Soup)
Good start to the set meal. Only wished that there was more bread to go with such good soup.

Advocado Wrap
I am not really a fan of pure greens but the mustard sauce that they add plus the creamy texture of the advocado makes this taste real good. The skin that they use also goes well with the greens. Excellent dish except that you will really have to love vegetables to finish up the whole portion of it.

Vegetarian Chicken Rice
The soup tastes exactly like the real thing! The 'meat' patty was good for a start but over time, the usualy mock meat taste will get apparent. The price is considered steep for a plate of chicken rice but it is worth the cost to try it.

Satisfied and full after the meal with a very refreshing and healthy feel.

Chef Daniel's Kitchen at Iluma Bugis

Their lunch promotion caught my eye. Chef Daniel's Kitchen at Iluma Bugis.
The lunch promotion is at $10.50 and it comes with a soup of the day , drink , mains and dessert of the day. Most important thing of all, the GST is ALREADY INCLUDED!
They have a good variety of food for you to choose from like sirloin steaks, burgers , fish and chips etc. Also, the interior of the restaurant is spacious and well lit which makes it very comfortable to dine in.
Soup of the Day (Chicken Soup)
Thickness of the soup is just nice and the bacon bits that they add just turns up the smell of the soup so well you will want to have another bowl. Along with it is their homemade Onion and Herb Bread which smells very fragrant and goes well with the soup.
Grilled Chicken Combo

Simple as it seems, the flavour of the chicken is packed right in the middle of the perfectly cooked meat. The skin is grilled till it is so crispy, you could hear the crackle when your knife cuts through it.

Grilled Chicken Burger Combo
With so many burger chains around now, this definitely will bring the competition to them. The patty is marinated and grilled to the exact point of meat being cooked thus the juiciness and texture is just so sublime. It is so succulent and when accompanied with their simple tomato sauce, you will probably agree hands down that it is one of the best burgers around. The salad given is also fresh and well seasoned. Burger buns : Amazing.

Dessert of the Day
A simple financier cake dusted with a little icing sugar, served with a kirsch cherry and orange sauce. Being a fan of sweet treats, this plain and unassuming cake will shocked you. It is extremely moist and well balanced in terms of taste, unlike usual batter cakes where butter smell will overpower the fragrance of a baked product.

Old Town White Coffee at Far East Square

In town last weekend strolling around and had a pit stop at Old Town White Coffee to get dinner and some drinks.
Recently there have been quite a few outlets sprouting all over and most serve mains and a large selection of coffee and drinks. The mains they serve are items like nasi lemak, curry potato with toast and penang laksa.

Iced Hazelnut White Coffee
Cost is a little expensive for in my opinion but taste wise, very much comparable to other coffee joints like Coffee Bean and Starbucks.

Mocha White Coffee
Rich coffee taste with a hint of bitterness from cocoa, coffee lovers will not get enough of this.

Curry Potato With Toast
The toast given is good. Apart from that, the rest are rather sub standard. Taste is average and the oil on top makes it less appetising.

Tom Yum Mee Hoon
This taste good and especially the dried shrimps which they put on top made a stark contrast with the sour and spicy taste of Tom Yum.

French Toast
What appears to look like a normal thick toast with syrup gave me a pleasent surprise inside as between the layers of bread is peanut butter generously smothered which gives a neutralising taste tothe sweetness of the syrup.

Cafe In Action at Kim Tian Road

Went to get dinner within the vincinity of my house and decided to try out the newly opened outlet of Cafe In Action along Kim Tian Road.
This is their second outlet, 3 years from their first at Valley Point. They packed a wide variety of dishes from burgers to set meals and even local cuisines in their menu. This particular outlet opens from 11a.m. - 6 a.m. which makes it a ideal place for supper. As I ordered take away (delivery is possible for a charge of $2) , I was unable to get pictures of the plating of the dishes. Rest assured, I will get them up as soon as I make my next trip over. While waiting for my order, the waiting staff offered me drinks which is on the house. The barley was normal whilst their lemongrass tea was great!

After dinner, manage to get my family out for dessert. I would say it is a little disappointing as their main course set a rather high standard for the cost of only $4-$8 per person.
Chocolate truffle
A little dry but thankfully for the layer of chocolate on top, managed to pass.
Carrot Cake
Nice and moist with a lot of carrot and nuts inside. For me its the best cake to try among the selections.
Brownie With Vanilla Ice Cream
This is what really disappointed me. The brownie is just like a normal sponge cake. Seriously needs a lot of improvement.

Honeymoon Desserts at VivoCity

Recommended by my sister as a good place to wrap lunch up, we headed to Honeymoon Dessert at Vivo City.

Durian Pancake (Signature Dish)

You either hate it or love it. Being a durian lover, it is without a doubt on my order chit. The durian is enveloped with whipped cream in a thin layer of pancake skin wrapped into a neat cube. The luscious durian flesh seems to melt in your mouth and the slight bitter taste of it blends perfectly with the sweetness of the whipped cream. Personally, I would prefer more durian in it. Apart from that, its AWESOME!

Fruits Sago

The standard sago but with more fruits instead of just honeydew. They are also very generous with the portion they give and fruits are also very fresh, even the kiwi is sweet.

Taro Custard and Sago Pudding

It looks kind of plain but be amazed, right below it is Yam Custard ( Orh-Ni ) with chunks of yam bits inside. The top layer is custard with sago which is baked making it look like a creme brulee. Taste is great but it is a little dry so do remember to order a drink to go along with this.

Watermelon Ice
Cool, refreshing and extremely thirst quenching.

Mango Beancurd Pudding

The beancurd is extremly smooth! Accompanied by half a mango, it is topped with mango puree syrup instead of the usual sweet syrup. Great combination and good texture. Definitely one for those with a sweet tooth!

The place is quite cosy but queue is inevitable on weekends. Food is excellent but some may find the cost a little steep. Desserts price range between $3.50 to $6.50 per bowl while the drinks are at $3 per cup. Total cost for 8 people when each of us ordered a dessert and shared 2 durian pancakes was $37.90. Service is average and a few of the staff seemed a little lost when the crowd starts flowing in. The cashier even gave me $2 worth of ten cents as change when he could not find any notes! But i believe they will improve on all these as time goes by as the floor manager was quite proficient.

BBQ at Downtown East

After a day of cycling at Ubin, my friends and I needed a good meal real bad. We headed to BBQ at Downtown East as they seem to offer a good deal.

Plenty of seats, bright lighting and a good variety of set meals. We ordered their student meal at $7.90.

Meals come with two sides which you can choose from Coleslaw, Mashed Potatoes and French Fries plus a drink. For their recommended mains, a additional topup of $1 is required.

Jerk (Jamaican Spice Chicken)
I wonder why they call it jerk but that aside, it tastes great! mildly spicy and the meat was lean without much fat. Had it with fries and mash. The rest of the group ordered the korean bbq chicken which looks the same but the taste is amazing too. They had this hot wings set which was rather interesting but personally i found it a little too spicy. As a whole, variety of food is good and taste is great. The restaurants set up is also quite comfortable to dine in due to the adeqaute lighting but the service was a little poor due to the staff being a little distracted of sorts. The student meal was a great steal (literally as some of us are actually not students anymore).

SOUP-erlicious at Suntec

When you had a whole day of eating, you would hope for a dinner set which is satisfying but easy on the stomach. I had been to Souperlicious once and this is my second time here. They have around 6 varieties of soups and also a selection of delectable sandwiches, wraps and pasta.

What I like about this place is the variation of the combo that they offer to you. You could either have the soup as a main while the sandwich is a side or vice versa depending on your craving for the particular moment.

Mushroom Soup With Hawaiian Chicken Salad
Not your typical cream of mushroom. Their mushroom soup is more chunky and less viscous (thick) so having a larger bowl would not make you feel bloated. Served alongside it is a ciabatta bread which i felt could be toasted more as it was rather soft. You also get to choose a cookie to go along with it which they recommended chocolate chip over plain chocolate and oatmeal. The hawaiian salad is good also but slightly lesser dressing would make it better.

Beef Goulash with Fruit Salad

The best relation to the taste of this beef goulash is japanese curry. Quite a good soup except for the beef chunks they put in that contained quite an amount of tendons which make it harder to chew. The fruit salad is rather normal but the strawberries added cuts the chunky texture of the apples.

Food's great, service staff is friendly and cost is reasonable. A pity that they have a pretty confined dining area which can sit up to at most 14-16 people at a go. The combo shown above costs $8.90 and $9.90 if you choose to have a pasta dish or sandwich.

Tampopo at TAKA

Whilst shopping around Takashimaya Shopping Centre, manage to find a restaurant version of Tampopo Deli at Liang Court. Tampopo Deli is a Japanese Pastry shop which sells good cakes and puffs while offering a good variety of mains too.

Therefore my girlfriend and I decided to stop for a quick refreshment. The menu they have here for deserts are rather limited so we ordered what we felt was best of the choices available.
Scoop Cake
Do not be decieved by its cream. It does not taste in anyway like the whip cream you get from cakes at the neighbourhood store. Fluffy Sponge, and fresh fruits add to the lightness of the cake.

Green Tea Float

Now this is SPECIAL! Not vanilla ice cream, not chocolate, but GREEN TEA! Absolutely great! a definite must try and a steal at $3 only considering the price of the other items at this place.

They have quite a well decorately and lit area for dining. I went during the break time of the service staff so they basically seemed invisible at times which makes it hard to call for an order. Taste is great thou i have not tried their main course yet but the price definitely is something that you have to pay to enjoy it.

I would advise visiting their Tampopo Deli at Liang Court Basement instead as there are more varieties of cake and the creampuff they make is absolute heaven. The price of their cakes can be a little steep but the occasional treat will not hurt. The dining area at Takashimaya Shopping Centre is better for families whilst at Liang Court is good for a quick bite with friends.
